A DRIVER from Cornwall who struck and killed a student while driving at 80mph on a 30mph road has been jailed for 15 years.
Ashton Kitchen-White, 19, died at the scene after being mowed down by Regan Kemp, 26, who was driving a Ford Focus ST in Middleton, Leeds, West Yorks., on May 16 this year, a court heard.
The victim's family previously told how at the time of his death Ashton was about to begin studying to become a doctor at Leeds University.
Kemp was being recorded on a mobile phone by a backseat passenger in the car when it smashed into Ashton. A witness in the car at the time said Kemp had been driving “like a maniac”.
Despite this, Kemp denied being behind the wheel and sought to shift the blame onto his friend.
Following a four-day trial at Leeds Crown Court, the jury unanimously found him guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
