Union demands council reinstate headteacher

SCHOOL leaders' union has threatened legal action against a Welsh council after it refused to reinstate a headteacher who successfully appealed her dismissal.

Rhian Jones, former headteacher of Ysgol Babanod Mochdre and Ysgol Cystennin Mochdre in Colwyn Bay, was dismissed following the amalgamation of the two schools to form Ysgol Minafon.

Ms Jones was dismissed by Conwy council in April as part of a compulsory redundancy process which was tied to the school merger.

However, there was no disciplinary element involved in her dismissal and Ms Jones appealed the decision.

In July, an independent appeals panel ruled in Ms Jones' favour, claiming that her dismissal was unjustified and that she was entitled to retain her position. Despite this ruling, Conwy County Borough Council has not reinstated Ms Jones to her former role.
