Thunderstorms warning as Wales set for a soaking

|June 07, 2025
THE Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for parts of the UK today.
Areas of Wales are in the firing line, with southern and middle areas of the country expected to suffer the worst of the conditions.
Up to 40mm of rain is forecast to fall as the Atlantic low sweeps across Britain. In the worst-affected areas, lightning is expected to be "frequent" along with hail and strong winds.
The unseasonable weather is being blamed on a stronger-than-usual jet stream running across southern Britain.
In Wales, 14 of the 22 counties are covered by the Met Office alert, which comes into effect at 9am today and runs until 6pm.
They are: Blaenau Gwent; Bridgend; Caerphilly; Cardiff; Carmarthenshire; Merthyr Tydfil; Monmouthshire; Neath Port Talbot; Newport; Powys; Rhondda Cynon Taf; Swansea; Torfaen; and the Vale of Glamorgan.
The warning also includes parts of England's south west, south east, east, the Midlands and London.
