I'VE had the realisation that a good panto is like a good Christmas dinner.
I want all the classic elements served up just how they should be (for which read: just how they always are).
Don't mistake me for being unambitious - I'm all for a bit of experimentation with some of the details at the edges.
A new dessert in the mix? I'm all ears. Doing something fancy with the red cabbage? Let's live a little.
But December 25 isn't a day to mess around with your staples. It's not the day anyone should jettison their much-loved stuffing recipe or ditch the usual method for concocting resplendent roasties and yummy Yorkshires (yes, I've come round to having them with Christmas dinner - cuff me).
And so it is with the annual New Theatre panto - both beautifully different and reassuringly the same.
