Rise in the number of business failures in Wales

BUSINESS failures have risen in Wales according to insolvency and restructuring trade body R3.

Insolvency-related activity, which includes administrations and creditors’ meetings as well as voluntary and compulsory liquidations, rose from 844 cases in 2024 to 863 last year ~ a rise of 2.3%.
R3 said there was also an 8.7% increase over the same period in the number of startup businesses from 21,036 to 22,863.
Levels of insolvency remain high with UK Government statistics from the Insolvency Service showing a 0.2% increase in corporate insolvencies in Wales and England which rose to 23,938 in 2025.
