Residents urged to join march as Scarlets rugby club faces axe

PEOPLE in Llanelli are being urged to march against plans that could see the town’s Scarlets rugby club axed.
The Save Our Scarlets call is being made by town councillors as the campaign to save the rugby region in the face of the Welsh Rugby Union's proposed restructuring plan, which could see two regions axed, gathers pace.
Llanelli town councillors say the loss of the Scarlets, its stadium and jobs would be a “travesty”.
The march, to Parc y Scarlets stadium in Trostre, is to take place on Saturday, September 27, ahead of the first game of the 2025-26 season against Munster.
It has been arranged by Scarlets supporters, and people are being asked to meet at the Phil Bennett memorial - the old Parc y Strade posts - in Sandy Water Park, at 1pm, from where the march will set off, reaching the stadium before the 5.30pm kickoff.
Councillors argue that the regional rugby side's multi-million-pound contribution to the local economy and cultural significance means the Scarlets must survive the Welsh Rugby Union’s (WRU) restructuring plans.
