‘Really lovely’ father dies in hotel balcony tragedy

FATHER-OF-TWO holidaying in the Canary Islands tragically lost his life after a 20ft fall when a hotel balcony rail gave way.

Las Cucharas beach in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote
Darren Silcox, a 56-year-old shopkeeper from Cwmbran, was one of two men who fell from the balcony in the early hours after the rail or bannister reportedly broke.
Mr Silcox had travelled to the Costa Tequise resort in Lanzarote, where he and a friend were on the balcony and the protective railing was said to have given way.
Mr Silcox succumbed to his injuries while the other man, aged 54, was hospitalised with severe injuries.
‘The devastating news has shocked customers at his two stores in Pontnewydd and Five Locks.
