Poll in Labour heartland sees party lose its support ahead of by-election

A POLL specifically of people in Caerphilly has shown a jaw-dropping result could be on the cards at the by-election taking place next week.

‘The poll shows that in the Labour heartland, they have dropped to a distant third.

‘The sample size is relatively small, of 501 people, but it is the first poll we have seen specifically asking people in Caerphilly their thoughts with just days to go before the poll opens next Thursday.

‘The poll shows that if the election was held today, Reform UK would win with 42% of the vote, Plaid Cymru would come second with 38%, while Labour would fall to a distant third with 12%.

‘The seat has only ever been held by Labour in Westminster and in the Senedd.

It echoes the national polling which shows that Labour's vote share appears to be dramatically falling in Wales. The most recent national poll put Labour on 14%, down from 40% in the 2021 Senedd election.

‘The poll, by public affairs agency Camlas, and carried out by Survation, showed Labour's vote share in the constituency could drop by more than 30%.
