Police investigate 'officer stabbing' at troubled prison

POLICE are investigating an alleged stabbing at the controversial Parc prison.

An inmate is alleged to have caused a prison officer minor injuries in an attack involving an improvised weapon.

A source close to the Bridgend jail told the Western Mail the incident happened at around 11.45am on Wednesday.

An inmate was alleged to have attacked an officer after being locked in his cell for days on a “red regime” due to staff shortages.

But G4S, the private security firm that runs the troubled prison, said there had not been a “prolonged” red regime and the incident was unrelated to this.

Our source claimed the alleged attacker threatened fellow inmates as well as staff.

One officer sustained injuries, which South Wales Police described as minor.

The force said an investigation is under way “after a prison custody officer was assaulted”.
