Pilot dies from cancer caused by inhaling fumes

AN EX-ROYAL Navy commander who received an MBE for his exceptional military service has died from cancer caused by exposure to toxic exhaust fumes in helicopters he piloted.

Richard Sutton, from Cardiff, suffered continuous tumours as a result of epithelioid fibrosarcoma, a rare form of the deadly disease caused by his time in the cockpit. The father-of-two died on September 19 aged 55.
He was one of five cancer sufferers to have received payouts from the Ministry of Defence after being inside ‘helicopters which pumped out toxic fumes, reports The Times.
He was a distinguished pilot who was appointed MBE for his bravery during missions involving the transport of commandos into conflict zones over a 25-year career serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Northern Ireland.
