A MAN has admitted supplying a substance to help the suicide or attempted suicide of four people.

- DAVID POWELL Reporter

Miles Cross yesterday pleaded guilty to four charges of supplying sodium nitrate.

A judge at Mold Crown Court ordered a pre-sentence report before he is sentenced on January 7.

Cross, of Llys Nantgarw, Wrexham, admitted four charges of intentionally doing an act capable of encouraging or assisting the suicide of another, contrary to Section 2(1) of the Suicide Act 1961.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place in Wrexham on August, 9, August 22, August, 26 and September 13 last year.

One of the four he supplied the substance to was a woman called Shubhreet Singh, who has since died.

The judge, His Honour Rhys Rowlands, extended reporting restrictions on identifying the other three people named in the charges.

Prosecutor Nick Johnson KC said there are reporting restrictions due to the "very significant sensitivities" in this case.

He added: "It will have potentially serious consequences to those (three) people if those names are reported.

The judge ordered a full pre-sentence report to be made by the probation service. The "entry point" would be that the sentence may be one of custody but alternatives would be considered. However he urged Cross not to read anything into that.

The judge said: "There is an inevitability about the sentence - it's just a question of how long but he will be given credit for pleading guilty today."
