Hospital reopens after major leak

IN October 2024 a critical incident was declared at the Princess of Wales hospital after “more serious internal long-term damage” was found following a serious leak.

It saw multiple wards damaged throughout the Bridgend hospital. Now, after a year and £30m investment, work to replace the roof of the original building has been completed.
Rainwater entered the site in September last year, causing 10 wards and eight theatre spaces to be lost as well as the intensive care unit (ICU) needing to relocate.
