IT CANNOT be right that young people studying to be nurses are going hungry to pay for their training.

One student nurse has described how she has done 12-hour shifts on the wards with nothing but water because she couldn't afford the hospital canteen or food to bring in that day.
Lauren Healan said she had to pay to launder her uniform and for transport to the shifts before food. Funding to study for her chosen career is just not enough.
The RCN says Lauren’s case is far from unique and is reflected across Wales.
It warned that for some young people the cost of training to be an NHS nurse puts it out of their reach as an option.
