Exiles boss gunning for trophy victory to help boost morale

NEWPORT County boss David Hughes is targeting a morale-boosting victory in tonight's EFL Trophy tie against Arsenal Under-21s at Rodney Parade (7pm).

The Exiles are winless in eight games following Saturday's 3-1 home defeat by new League Two leaders Gillingham and are without a victory at Rodney Parade since March 15.
In fact, having finished last season on a downward spiral under Nelson Jardim and then Dafydd Williams, County have won just once in their last 20 games in all competitions.
"What we have to do is lift the boys' spirits," admitted Hughes.
"We need a win, the supporters need a win.
"We all turn up with a real desire to watch our team win.
"There's no doubt that we are representing the city with everything that the football club is epitomising.
