|October 10, 2025
THE former Whitchurch Hospital site in Cardiff has been listed for commercial sale, it has been confirmed.
Velindre University NHS Trust became the legal owner of the historic site in November 2024 following a transfer from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
The trust has now said that agents Savills have started a marketing campaign inviting interested parties to express their interest in the property as the first stage of the sale process. The price is not listed and will be provided on application. Since closing its doors for the last time in April 2016 the vast site has lain vacant.
The trust says it has been working with several partners since taking ownership to carry out urgent work to make the historic site safe as well as preparing for its future and working with key stakeholders to discuss the approach to the disposal of the site.
The Savills description states: "Whitchurch Hospital represents an exciting opportunity to revitalise a historically and locally important former Edwardian hospital set within its own gardens and incorporating established sporting facilities.
"It comprises a site area of approximately 32.5 acres, plus approximately 31,122 sq m GIA of buildings.
