Community 'plagued by awful smell'

PEOPLE in one part of Wales are having to put up with the smell of sewage and rotten eggs for sometimes days at a time, it is claimed.
One resident said people had reported associated symptoms such as nausea, headaches and respiratory irritation.
The issue was raised by Rhondda Cynon Taf citizen Sorrel Hill who spoke to county councillors about the issues for people living in Abernant, near a landfill site in Llwydcoed.
She said: "For years residents have experienced repeated episodes of strong sewage or rotten egg odours. These episodes are unpredictable and can last for hours or days."
The meeting heard that no household waste had been put into the landfill site for more than 10 years because it went instead to energy from waste. Capping work had also been done to make sure that if there was any gas escaping it was sealed and caught and that Natural Resources Wales (NRW) had overseen this and was happy with the work that had been done.
