The Welsh sprinter won a surprise gold medal in Nanjing last year but had to settle for an agonising fourth place in Poland, just 0.01 seconds shy of the podium.

In the semifinals, the 24-year-old surpassed the personal best of 6.47 seconds he set earlier this month, running 6.45 to close to within 0.03 seconds of Dwain Chambers’ 17-year-old British record.
