Enough power for thousands of homes

Western Gazette

A new solar farm being created for Leonardo will generate enough energy to power up to 6,500 homes.

The Camp Road scheme will be used to supply the firm's site in Yeovil with 100% green energy.

A 20-year deal for the solar farm - known as a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) - has been signed between the helicopter manufacturer and energy company Conrad Energy.

The project recently received planning permission from Somerset Council and construction is expected to begin later this year.

The solar farm will be created on land leased from a farmer. While 40 of the 45-acre site will be covered in panels, only five per cent of the land will be disturbed, Conrad Energy says.

The scheme was developed after Leonardo in the UK committed to be Net Zero by 2030.
