Weight loss jabs could force meat prices higher

Demand for protein from weight-loss jab consumers could lead to a 10%-20% increase in the price of some meat, says an expert

Food price expert Oisin Hanrahan, the chief executive and founder of Tesco-backed supply chain platform Keychain, said a number of pressures including global insecurity and energy prices were contributing to the rising cost of meat for consumers.

He said rising demand was also a factor, currently driven by an increased emphasis on the importance of nutrient-dense protein for those eating smaller portions as a result of the effects of GLP-1 medication, or weight-loss jabs.
