THE “World’s Most Intrepid Twins” have conquered a Himalayan mountain - with one wearing replica of kit worn by British explorers 100 years ago.

- FILIPA GASPAR

Ross and Hugo Turner, 36, known as the Turner Twins, are professional adventurers famous for their pioneering expeditions and missions across the globe.

‘The Devon-based siblings wanted to see how their bodies reacted in the freezing temperatures of Mera Peak, near Everest, in Nepal.

Hugo wore the same kit used by George Mallory and Andrew Comyn Sandy Irvine when they climbed Everest in 1924, while Ross wore a modern kit.

They summited 21,256ft on October 17 at 5.39am with temperatures dropping to -20C - completing a project that merged modern mountaineering technology and traditional materials and garments.

Hugo said the two-week expedition showed the vintage kit performed “very, very well’.

He said: “We set out to gain unique insight into Mallory’s clothing and help build up a better picture of the performance of his kit from his 1924 Everest expedition.
