United States federal government shutdown is continuing

A VOTE to end a United States government shutdown, hours after it began, failed yesterday, as Democrats in the Senate held firm to back the party's demands to fund health care subsidies that US President Donald Trump and Republicans refuse to provide.

The White House and Congress failed to strike an agreement to keep government programmes and services open, throwing the country into anew cycle of uncertainty.
