SOPHIE TURNER, ARCHIE MADEKWE AND JACOB FORTUNE-LLOYD TALK TO LYNN RUSK ABOUT EXPLORING THEMES OF WEALTH INEQUALITY IN THEIR NEW HEIST SERIES STEAL.
-
A PENSION fund investment company may not seem like the obvious setting for a high-octane drama, but when violent thieves burst in demanding billions of pounds, the tension is dialled up instantly.
This is the backdrop for Steal, a new six-part heist thriller starring Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, Saltburn’s Archie Madekwe and Bodies actor Jacob Fortune-Lloyd.
The series, written by Sotiris Nikias, follows office worker Zara (played by Sophie) and her colleague Luke (played by Archie), as they find themselves caught in the middle of the heist.
But who would steal billions of pounds from ordinary people’s pensions - and why? That's the mystery Jacob's character DCI Rhys must solve... and fast.
Sophie, 29, says: “I was drawn to the themes the show explores: the cost-of-living crisis, what makes good people do bad things, and the impact of living with narcissists or alcoholics and what that does to you.
“There were so many interesting ideas that you don’t often get the chance to explore, so I jumped at the opportunity.”
The Northampton-born actress, who is set to star as Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s new adaptation of Tomb Raider, enjoyed how the action unfolds from the very beginning rather than building up to it.
“The thing about Steal that I love is that the heist happens right at the get-go, and the series explores the fallout from it, rather than the buildup. I don’t think we see that much in movies and TV shows.
“That was something I was really excited to explore.”
