'Hate has no home here,' says Somerset councillor

THE leader of Somerset Council has stated “hate has no home in Somerset” following recent protests and attacks on two religious buildings.
Police are currently investigating after rocks were hurled at Bridgwater Baptist Church on Saint Mary Street on August 31 (during a service organised by the MSBN Bridgwater church), and after the windows of the Taunton Central Mosque & Islamic Centre on Tower Lane were damaged on September 6.
Councillor Habib Farbahi (the Liberal Democrat division member for Comeytrowe and Trull) said that these incidents and recent protests around asylum seekers had left his constituents “understandably concerned’, and called on the council to condemn these attacks.
Council leader Bill Revans (who represents the North Petherton division) roundly condemned the incidents, stating he was committed to “ensuring Somerset remains a place where everyone belongs”.
Cllr Farbahi raised his concerns when the full council convened in Bridgwater on Thursday last week.
