OLD habits die hard. Our milk is still delivered in bottles and each time I open a new one I find myself giving it a preliminary shake. Why? Well, to incorporate the cream into the milk.
Except there is no longer a two-inch layer of cream at the top as once there was. Back then, unless you were inclined to carefully decant that upper layer on to your cornflakes and leave the rest of the family to drink depleted milk, then you gave the bottle a vigorous shake to mix the contents thoroughly.
