Addiewell named as violent jail

HMP Addiewell has been named as Scotland’s most violent and dangerous jail, according to a new report.

Data released from the Scottish Prison Service revealed the privately run prison in West Lothian had more cases of assault and self-harm than any other nick in Scotland last year.
It recorded 234 incidents of self-harm, which accounted towards the 1047 incidents in Scotland’s jails higher than at HMP Barlinnie, which holds the most dangerous prisoners in Scotland at 55.
