Toronto officer due to be sentenced after stealing credit cards, luxury watch from dead people

Convicted cop arrested at Montreal airport

Const. Boris Borissov was convicted in May of 15 criminal offences including theft, fraud and breach of trust by an official, obstruction of justice, and possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000 - in a case involving a series of thefts from people whose disappearances he had been assigned to investigate as a Toronto police officer.

A Toronto police officer facing a potential prison sentence for more than a dozen offences, including stealing a luxury watch and credit cards from dead people, was arrested over the weekend at a Montreal airport allegedly trying to flee the country in violation of a bail condition that he not leave Ontario.

Montreal police arrested Const. Boris Borissov, 50, on Saturday while he was waiting to board an outbound plane at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Toronto police confirmed on Monday.

Following his arrest in Montreal, Borissov was returned to Toronto and charged with failure to comply with recognizance.

He made his first court appearance on Monday morning, sitting in a cell at 43 Division wearing a blue windbreaker, shorts and handcuffs.

He has been remanded in custody until a bail hearing can be arranged.
