School's pupil secretary retires after 47 years and working under six heads

SHE'S been the calm voice on the phone, the guiding hand in the medical room and the familiar face in the school office - but now Rosemary Alford is hanging up her lanyard after 47 years at Uffculme School.
Rosemary, fondly referred to as the school's 'National Treasure', is stepping down from her role as pupil secretary, marking the end of an era for generations of pupils, families and staff.
Her journey with the school stretches back far beyond her first day as a staff member in January 1978 - Rosemary was once a pupil herself, roaming the same corridors she would later help run with unwavering dedication.
