Poems and praise in tribute to late councillor

Members gathered at Devon County Council's full council meeting spoke about Cllr Letch’s amazing achievements in spite of being born without arms, and his positive attitude to life, even in his final weeks.

Cllr Letch, who was elected to the county council in 2021, was praised for his approach to his duties as a councillor and as someone who sought to transcend political division.

Cllr Alan Connett (Liberal Democrat, Exminster & Haldon) led the tributes with a reading of Regret Not Me by poet Thomas Hardy.

Cllr Tracy Adams (Labour, Pinhoe & Mincinglake) said she shared a passion for foreign languages with Cllr Letch. And added: “I want to read a small poem in French, as that is part of who Frank was. It starts by saying ‘the night has died’ but finishes with ‘everything is possible,’ and I think that reflects Frank, as while he has gone, he has taught us that everything is possible”
