QUEEN ELIZABETH II: 1926-2022

- RUSSELL MYERS

SILENT VIGIL

HEAD bowed and hands clasped in white gloves, Prince William leads the Queen’s eight grandchildren as they stand in silent and solemn vigil last night.

The moving tribute saw William, 40, and brother Harry march in slow tandem into Westminster Hall in Blues and Royals No1 uniforms.

Their cousins, in black, followed as members of the public who had queued for hours watched on.

King Charles asked the eight to come together for the unique event – mirroring the vigil he and his siblings conducted the night before.

At 6pm yesterday, the duty officer struck the floor three times to signal the arrival of the royals. With impeccable timing, they stepped forward, as one, to take their positions. William’s blue garter sash denoted his rank in the family.
