MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE ENEMY ALL OVER AGAIN

Most bands write a dozen songs to create an album - but The Enemy came up with nearly 200.

Now the Coventry rockers are back with their first LP in a decade but it did take a while for them to find their groove again.Frontman Tom Clarke recalls: “When we did [debut album] We'll Live And Die In These Towns - which is honestly the only Enemy album where I'm happy with all of the writing - we did 30 tracks to get 11. I knew we would need a similar ratio, but I haven't written for the Enemy for a long time, so there was a certain amount of getting back into the swing of it.”

And the manner in which the band releases new music meant they needed even more songs.

“We had to make a decision - do we do what I'd done on my solo stuff where we don't put it on the streaming sites and we just sell people a physical product? Which is a great way in this day and age to get the album to pay for itself,” Tom says. “Or do we go for maximum reach and let everyone know there's an album out, which involves putting it on Spotify and all the sites, but strips away the potential revenue from that to offset the costs of making it?”
