Respect Orders bar louts from streets

YOBS terrorising communities face bans and jail time under a law voted on by MPs this week.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper says Respect Orders will restore confidence in the police after years of Tory inaction.

They will give police, councils and other public bodies the power to ban persistent offenders from areas where they have caused misery.

Louts could be sent on alcohol or anger management courses.

Breaching an order will be a crime punishable by up to two years in jail.

The measures will be introduced with the Crime and Policing Bill which goes before MPs tomorrow.

Ms Cooper said: "This bill will make our country safer by restoring neighbourhood policing, rebuilding public trust in criminal justice, and giving law enforcement the powers needed to protect communities.
