LATE GREAT KIERAN PICKS THE PERFECT TIME TO BLOSSOM

- BY NEIL SQUIRES

WESTON-SUPER-MARE'S magnificent FA Cup run came to an honourable end in Cleethorpes as the Somerset part-timers made League Two Grimsby sweat for their place in the fourth round.

The Seagulls threatened another sixth-tier shock after Louis Britton brought them level at Blundell Park but Kieran Green came off the bench to spare the Mariners' blushes with an 86th-minute winner.

For Weston, second in National League South, it was their first time in the third round and, backed by 600 noisy fans, they could not have given any more. It was an odyssey that began in mid-September at Taunton Town in the qualifying rounds.

Blundell Park had already been the scene of one cup giant killing this season with Manchester United dumped out of the Carabao Cup on penalties.
