NEW DELHI At an event to commemorate the exodus of Jewish refugees from Arab lands and Iran, Israel's ambassador to India, Reuven Azar hosted an evening of musical soiree featuring Yehuda Smith and Shivam Bhardwaj, one an Israeli and the other Indian.

Indian-Israeli duo present ancient Persian music

They presented Persian classical music.

The ancient classical Persian music (Radif) is a traditional style passed down from teacher to student through generations.

Research by Dr Peretz Eliyahu reveals scales and motifs that may have originated in ancient Israel and travelled to Persia during the Temple era, later becoming embedded in Persian music.

Yehuda and Shivam met a few months ago in north India, bonding instantly over their shared devotion for Persian musical traditions that made them create a performance together, which they presented to the audience.
