Superstar mare goes back-to-back in WFA championship before Moonee Valley's rebuild

Top Sydney trainer Chris Waller could not have described the final Cox Plate on the soon to be rebuilt Moonee Valley racecourse any better.
"It was a classic Cox Plate," he said.
That came moments after watching Via Sistina hold off stablemate Buckaroo to win the 105th and final A$6 million (S$5.1 million) Group 1 Cox Plate (2,040m) on Oct 25, before the Moonee Valley racecourse is transformed and reconfigured.
It was the Fastnet Rock eightyear-old's second success in the Cox Plate. In 2024, she set a recordbreaking romp where she scored by eight lengths in track-record time.
This time, the champion mare had to call on all her reserves to withstand the stinging challenge from Buckaroo, before providing jockey James McDonald with his fourth consecutive Cox Plate win and Waller's sixth victory in Australia's weight-for-age championship event.
