S'pore shares rise on first trade day of month; region ends mixed

Equities in Singapore kicked off the first trading day of September in the black, even as regional exchanges turned in a mixed performance.

The benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) rose 0.6 per cent or 20.15 points to 3,463.08 on Sept 2.

Across the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers 291 to 258, as 928 million shares worth $1.1 billion were traded over the day.

The biggest gainer on the STI was offshore and marine company Seatrium, which gained 4.7 per cent or seven cents to close at $1.55. It was also the most actively traded counter by volume, with 52 million shares worth $79.3 million traded.
