Malaysia to revise sales tax rate, expand services tax from July 1

Malaysia will revise its sales tax rate and widen the scope of its services tax from July 1, the Finance Ministry said on June 9, as the government looks to boost its revenue and strengthen its fiscal position.

KUALA LUMPUR -
A sales tax rate of 5 per cent to 10 per cent will be imposed on non-essential and luxury goods such as king crab, salmon, imported fruit, racing bicycles and antique artworks, the ministry said in a statement.
