LOCAL DESIGNERS GET WICKED

Whether you are tickled pink or green with envy, home-grown designers have hopped on the train to Oz with Wicked collections.

Shoppers can follow the yellow brick road at Dors at Design Orchard and find local creations in the Wicked collaboration between Design Orchard and NBCUniversal, which is behind the film.

Design Orchard, a showcase of more than 80 home-grown brands, recently rebranded its boutique to Dors, which stands for Design Orchard Retail Space.

These Elphaba- and Glinda-themed collaborations include clothes, bags, accessories, scents and dolls, and are available at Dors until Jan 3, 2025.

Based on the award-winning Broadway musical Wicked - a take on L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz and the 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz - the new musical film revolves around the unlikely friendship between witches Elphaba and Glinda. It opened here on Nov 21.

British actress-singer Cynthia Erivo, 37, plays the green-skinned outcast Elphaba, who later becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. American pop superstar Ariana Grande, 31, is the popular Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.

Directed by Crazy Rich Asians (2018) film-maker Jon M. Chu, the film, like the musical, comes in two acts, with Wicked Part Two set for a November 2025 release.

Ms Zhang Ting Ting, chief executive of Singapore Fashion Council (SFC), which manages Dors, says the Wicked collaboration with NBCUniversal is a "perfect alignment of vision and creativity".

Mr Harmeet Duggal, Asia-Pacific vice-president of franchise strategy and theatrical brand marketing at NBCUniversal, says: "The story, characters and immersive world the Wicked film-makers and cast have created will resonate with generations of fans. Wicked is more than just a film. It's about the power of friendship, empowerment and embracing differences."
