Jeff Bezos overtakes Elon Musk as world's richest person

NEW YORK - For the first time in more than nine months, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk is no longer the world's richest person.

Mr Musk lost his position at the top of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index to Mr Jeff Bezos after shares in Tesla tumbled 7.2 per cent on March 4. He now has a net worth of US$197.7 billion (S$265.7 billion), while Mr Bezos has a bigger one of US$200.3 billion.
It is the first time that Mr Bezos, 60, the founder of Amazon.com, has topped Bloomberg's ranking of the richest people since 2021.
The wealth gap between Mr Musk, 52, and Mr Bezos, which at one point was as wide as US$142 billion, has been shrinking as Amazon and Tesla shares move in opposite directions.
