How to appeal secondary school posting results

The results for secondary school postings will be out on Dec 19, but quite a few parents have already gone on chat groups to inquire about the appeal process.

Many of them are eyeing transfers to popular schools, including those offering the six-year Integrated Programme.

While I will explain how the appeal process works, I would advise parents to first consider their reasons for seeking a transfer for their child.

Whether you are asking for a transfer to an Integrated Programme (IP) school or not, you have to submit your appeal directly to your preferred school.

The Ministry of Education states on its website that your child’s PSLE score must meet the school’s cutoff point for that year. So for this year, it should be the cutoff score for 2025, not 2024.

Whether a school accepts your child will also depend on whether the school has vacancies.

Schools are given autonomy to manage their appeal cases, and will inform you directly if your child is offered a place.

But you will know the outcome only from mid-January 2026. While you await the results, your child should attend classes at the school he or she has been posted to, so that his or her learning is not disrupted.

But before putting in the appeal, think carefully about the reasons for seeking a transfer.
