A number of its business verticals had been hit hard by the pandemic. The de-growth in the post-pandemic phase seems to be a thing of the past now, and Balmer Lawrie, a Kolkata-headquartered Mini-ratna-I PSE (public sector enterprise), under Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is well on track to reach its targeted gross revenue of Rs 6000 crore and an increased bottomline.

Balmer Lawrie well on track to cross ₹6,000 cr revenue mark, set to roll out new verticals

The company, currently, is present in eight businesses—travel and vacations, industrial packaging, greases and lubricants, leather chemicals, logistics, logistics infrastructure, logistics services, and refinery and oil field services and is now well set to introduce new business verticals.

A beaming Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri, Chairman & Managing Director and Director [Service Businesses]—Additional Charge, Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd, has his job well cut-out and is now charting out a new growth strategy for the company—from introducing new business verticals, foraying into ethanol production, third-party logistics to promoting the start-up ecosystem.

In a free-wheeling interview with The Statesman, Palchaudhuri, outlines his plans and strategies to reach that ambitious goal.

Excerpts:

Q: Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. has lined up a Capex plan of Rs 700 crore in order to achieve a revenue of Rs 6000 crore by 2030 from the current revenue of nearly Rs 2400 crore. Could you please elaborate on this—how would this fund be mobilised? How would it be utilised? How would you reach the revenue target step by step and from which vertical?
