Purulia MP Pushes for Development Projects in Meeting with NITI Aayog

Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Purulia Lok Sabha constituency, recently met with Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, in New Delhi, urging him to include Purulia—one of the most backward districts in the country—in the national development project map.

Rajib Kumar Sen, Project Director at NITI Aayog, was also present during the meeting.

With the state assembly elections barely a year away, Mr. Mahato has become increasingly active in his efforts to retain the BJP stronghold in Purulia, located in South Bengal.

"Purulia ranks among the lowest in the country on the Human Development Index, particularly in education, health, nutrition, and infrastructure. I have requested the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog to conduct a comprehensive study and initiate central projects for the socio-economic upliftment of the region," Mr. Mahato stated.

Despite its status as one of West Bengal's most underdeveloped districts, Purulia has not been included in NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Programme—a serious oversight that, he said, demands urgent rectification.
