Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the importance of stable India-China relations for regional peace and prosperity. In an interview with The Yomiuri Shimbun, PM Modi highlighted the potential benefits of good relations between the two neighbours, stating that "stable, predictable, and amicable bilateral relations between India and China can have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity."

PM Modi, who is currently in Tokyo to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, will, on his second leg, travel to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

PM Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to respecting sovereignty, international law, and peaceful resolution of disputes, particularly in the context of China's military expansion in the South China Sea and the East China Sea.

PM Modi also reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Japan, emphasising cooperation in key areas including military modernisation and industry partnership, building a resilient and trusted semiconductor value chain, exploring opportunities for cooperation in space exploration, and enhancing trade and investment partnership.
