Newly-elected MLA from Kaliganj, Alifa Ahmed, has pledged to visit the family of 10-year-old Tamanna Khatun, who died during a political victory rally last week.

- STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE

The incident has triggered an outcry across the state, with the opposition accusing the ruling Trinamul Congress (TMC) of using violence to silence dissent. Speaking to reporters just a day before taking her oath as a legislator, Ahmed said: "I will go to Tamanna's house, very soon. I feel deep sympathy for her mother. What happened in Kaliganj is beyond words. I've said this before and I repeat — we still cannot come to terms with the loss of a child. I'm heartbroken."
