The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed that all postgraduate medical students doing MD/MS courses in broad specialities must complete a mandatory three-month-long district residency programme (DRP) on rotation in district hospitals or the district health system.

- STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE

As per Section 5.2(V) of PGMER-2023, this programme aims to enhance their clinical and managerial skills while contributing their services in the public health system.

The NMC has also reiterated that PG medical students undergoing the training programme should primarily be accommodated within their respective states or Union Territories (UTs).

The commission has issued guidelines in this regard to all medical colleges and health authorities in respective states and UTs across the country.
