In terms of sectoral performance, barring Nifty IT which was up by 0.72 pc, all other indices ended lower with Nifty Pharma down by 1.89 pc, Healthcare down by 1.79 pc and Metal down by 1.43 pc
The stock market on Tuesday erased some of the previous session's gains to end lower in the volatile session.
The market responded amid continued Middle East tensions between Iran and Israel, keeping investor sentiment fragile. The two nations exchanged attacks for the fifth consecutive day, reinforcing risk-off sentiment in the markets.
At close, the Sensex was down 212.85 points or 0.26 per cent at 81,583.30, and the Nifty was down 93.10 points or 0.37 per cent at 24,853.40.
Further, the mid-cap and small-cap segments underperformed as the BSE Midcap index fell 0.56 per cent and the Smallcap index declined 0.67 per cent.
