Bista accuses Bengal govt of withholding disaster relief funds in North Bengal

On the eve of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to Siliguri on 10 November, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista has accused the West Bengal government of gross mismanagement and discriminatory allocation of disaster relief funds in North Bengal.
Mr. Bista said he had written to the Union Home Secretary on 24 October 2025, seeking details of the funds allocated and utilised by the state under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Citing the Ministry of Home Affairs' reply, he claimed the letter exposed "serious irregularities and regional bias" in the use of disaster relief funds meant for the Darjeeling Hills, Terai, and Dooars.
"The letter makes it clear that, as per the National Policy on Disaster Management, the primary responsibility for disaster management and relief distribution lies with the state government," Mr. Bista said.
