Amid growing controversy over alleged "vote theft" in Bihar and the contentious Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday launched his Voter Rights Yatra in the state.
Amid growing controversy over alleged "vote theft" in Bihar and the contentious Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday launched his Voter Rights Yatra in the state. Almost simultaneously, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] staged a massive rally in West Bengal, condemning the SIR exercise and accusing the BJP-led Central government of divisive and anti-democratic practices.
Thousands of Left supporters, led by CPI(M) state secretary and Politburo member Mohammed Salim, marched nearly seven kilometers through North Dum Dum, a northern suburb of Kolkata. Organized by five area committees of the party, the rally wound through several neighborhoods before culminating in a public meeting.
