In a dramatic twist within just three days, after the Election Commission of India (EC) sought written explanations, the number of polling booths in West Bengal that had earlier claimed zero uncollectable SIR (Special Intensive Revision) forms has shrunk sharply from 2,208 to just 7, making it evident that there were large-scale discrepancies in the enumeration forms submitted by booth-level officers (BLOs).
Initially, district election officers (DEOs) had reported that in 2,208 booths across the state, not a single voter had died or relocated in the past year.
However, once the EC demanded detailed reports from districts, the numbers began dwindling By Wednesday, the figure had dropped to 480.On Thursday, the revised list showed that only seven booths in the entire state had nodeaths, relocations, missing voters, or duplicate entries.
