WWF-India and noted sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik joined hands to highlight the importance of human-tiger co-existence—reinforcing the tiger's role in sustaining healthy forests and biodiversity on the eve of Global Tiger Day with the unveiling of sand sculpture at the Puri Beach on Monday.
Global Tiger Day, also known as International Tiger Day, is observed annually on 29 July. It was established in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit, where governments of 13 tiger range countries pledged to double the wild tiger population by 2022. India launched Project Tiger in 1973.
The theme for the artwork—India Strides with the Stripes—highlights the critical role of the tiger in maintaining ecological balance, symbolising hope, and promoting harmony and co-existence between humans and wildlife.
