FM College Principal Arrested as Self-Immolation Case Sparks Statewide Outrage

The principal of FM Autonomous College, Dilip Ghosh, was arrested on Monday in connection with the self-immolation attempt by a girl student alleging prolonged mental torture and sexual harassment.
The arrest comes two days after the accused assistant professor, Sameer Sahu, was taken into custody by police.
The girl, battling for life with over 95% burn injuries, remains critical on life support at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The incident has triggered widespread protests and political turmoil across Balasore and Bhubaneswar, with opposition parties blaming the BJP-led state government for negligence.
The girl had petitioned the Chief Minister, Education Minister, local BJP MP, and MLA seeking help against the accused professor but received no response. Alleging government apathy, the Opposition intensified protests, shifting demonstrations from Bhubaneswar to Balasore on Monday.
